Lúminaria Work In Progress

LÚMINARIA written by Fionnuala Gygax directed by Maisie Developed at Backstage in June 2019as part of an Arts Council Artist in Residency programme with support from Roscommon Arts Centre & Creative Ireland Using puppetry, an original musical score, lighting design and movement Lúminaria brings the audience on a magical journey into the unknown with protagonist Lúna, exploring what it means to face one's fears in a whimsical, magical and funny story, bursting with colourful and eccentric characters' teaching us that sometimes when we face our fears we find our real potential.

The world is full of darkness but also full of light.

Sometimes all we need is a little help to realise that the light is there…

Welcome to Lúminaria.

A village with winding roads, cobbled streets and coloured buildings of all shapes and sizes. Where night follows day and day follows night and where everybody is happy and bright except- Tonight, there is a problem.

When darkness threatens the village of Lúminaria, Lúna must go on a magical adventure into the unknown and face her biggest fear - the Dark.

First performed in the Backstage Longford Theatre in April 2019 as a work in progress. Full production in 2020.
